NB Gurung Art: Capturing The Beauty Of Nepal

Whether you’re into extreme sports, photography, exploring different cultures and religions, food, exotic animals or even if you just want to unwind in a tranquil environment, Nepal offers something for everyone. The one thing Nepal is predominantly renowned for worldwide is it’s incomparable beauty. Nepali Watercolour artist based in NB Gurung manages to capture the beauty and the vulnerability of Nepal like no other, painting scenes from all over Nepal to perfectly demonstrate just how entirely stunning this country is.

The ‘Bhaktapur Sky’ painting holds a very special place in NB’s heart because it is an impression of an area of Kathmandu he painted after the two massive earthquakes hit Nepal last year. The earthquakes destroyed millions of properties, killed almost 9,000 people and damaged huge amounts of historic heritage, including Bhaktapur Square. The dominant entity of clouds across the painting is an obvious cry for its lost glory…

Swyambhunath Stupa, Kathmandu is a historically important place of worship for Buddhists and Hindus, also known as the Monkey Temple. Now part of this ancient and amazing structure no longer exists after the April 2015 earthquake. Executed from sketches, painted on handmade paper using the wash technique.

This painting displays a scene that is far away from the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu. NB likes to travel (or even trek) to more remote and local areas of Nepal to paint landscapes, showing a whole different side to the Himalayan region. This painting simply named ‘Landscape’ captures the artist’s world in watercolour on Indian handmade paper.
